This is what Jacob would yell when we arrived some place. "No more nukies" Then he would proceed to chuck the nuk somewhere in the van so I would have to crawl around and find it under an old banana peel or something.
Last week I'd had it- we were suppose to be laying down for a nap and Jacob couldn't find his nuk. I was frustrated because he is almost 3 and was faithfully committed to the nukie, the world ended if he and Isabelle couldn't suck a plastic bulb to sleep. So, I got tough and made them sleep without it. I was shocked, they screamed for a bit, eventually both were asleep and we haven't looked back. I am so proud of them. They ask for them sometimes, especially when they are tired, but we explain that they are gone. We also say they are waiting for the baby so she can use them. It's so freeing to have them gone. We don't have to always worry about having it in the car, diaper bag, purse, or wherever. I haven't had to do as many stretching exercises in the van when Izzy throws it on the floor in the van while I am driving.
I will admit, I love the way kids get their nuks and want to cuddle up at night and before and after naps, I love that nuks are peace keepers and silencers in public and when I need a break. And I secretly love that they look like babies when they have them in, but I need to realize they are no longer babies. With all the things I do love, I'm not giving in. However in a couple weeks we will start all over with the new baby- Oh the season of life I am in, I love it!
Way to go! Wyatt is 2 and I think he actually is more obsessed with his pacifier than ever... maybe he senses the end is near=) Hopefully, I'm right behind you.
ReplyDeleteAinsley my 2 year old was VERY obsessed with the nuk, but he has gotten over the lose much faster than my 1 year old. You can do it!
