We thought it would be a special thing for the kids to bring something home for themselves, just like we brought the baby home from the hospital. So, Brenton took Jacob and Isabelle to Wal-Mart to get fish. They each got a Betta fish, Jacob chose the large beautifully colored male, and Isabelle chose the little, less colorful female. Brenton and I don't have a very good track record when it comes to caring for Betta fish- we tried to care for 2 fish when we first got married, they lasted about a month, but we thought we would try it again.
The kids were very excited about their new family members. We got them a little tank, rocks, plant, and food. Then we transplanted the fish from their little bowl to the new tank home. Here is where is goes down hill...Oops, we used tap water for the tank water! We didn't know you needed to use "special" water for the fish. Sadly Isabelle's fish only made it one day, while Jake's is still holding on for life, although, I think he would rather die becuase he doesn't really eat, and he swims to the top for air then sinks to the bottom. Jacob still loves his fish, and shows everyone that comes over. I guess they served their purpose for now.
That's cool! In June Nico had won (well ok we paid for tokens so that he could play the game) four fish in a carnival game. We are down to one! He is so hooked though, a friend has given us his fish tank and so now we need to be more committed to buying fish!!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel so bad - we had a fish that "held on for dear life" for (I swear) years! Just when you thought for sure it was gonna die, it would just keep on swimming. It got to the point where the fish could only swim sideways!
ReplyDeleteI think it was a great idea, though, to give the kids fishes. I hope he makes it!
