Before I was married or had kids, I used to think about what it would be like if I did. I would think about what I wanted our family to be like, and what I wanted to do. Last night was a very close replica of what I always thought about- family night, everyone having a good time at the local pool. The family all loaded up and adventured out in the snow storm to the Monticello Community Center. For Christmas and because of my recent life style change we got a membership to the Community Center. It is so great! I now have a place I get go when the long cold days at home are not going well.
First, I worked out for 30 min while the kids played in the "Romp -n- Stomp" room, it's much like a McDonald's play land except better because you don't have to be tempted by the yummy greasy food. Then when I was done, I sat with Andrew while Brenton and the kids enjoyed the pool. Jacob is a hydromaniac, so he could stay in the pool for hours. Isabelle on the other hand, spends most of her time crying and holding on to Brenton because she is afraid to fall in. Her head went too far under last time, so she is bit skeptical for a while. I am sure she will be splashing all the kids before too long.
It was a great night. I couldn't help but have a smile on my face. It was almost perfect. The one thing I think was missing was me in the water with Andrew. I am working on getting myself in (smaller self) so hopefully soon we can all enjoy the pool.
Just stumbled on your blog but this post is so relevant...family activities, no matter what they are will always be priceless. Our favorites are campfires, hockey tournaments, movie nights, and sitting around the dinner table. It gets more difficult as my guys get older, but so many families pass up on these chances to create the best relationships and memories! Enjoy!
