Children of the Lord

My neighbor, Amy, got me an awesome book for Christmas called, David, 90 days with a Heart Like His, by Beth Moore. It's awesome! It's a study/devotional that is taking me through the book of 1 Samuel. I have learned so much in the 9 days that I have been doing it. It is a mix of Bible content and personal reflection. The length of the daily lessons is perfect especially for a busy mom of 3 like me. It breaks the verses down so I can really think about smaller chunks at a time rather than large pieces like some studies and then I get overwhelmed and usually miss the key points that I was suppose to get out of it.
The book of 1 Samuel is filled with a lot of wise things that we can all apply to our lives today. I am really enjoying right now Hannah's faithfulness to the Lord with her first born son Samuel. Read 1 Samuel 1:24-28. Think about this, put yourself in her position with your own children...

24 After he was weaned, (3 years old) she took the boy with her, young as he was, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh. 25 When they had slaughtered the bull, they brought the boy to Eli, 26 and she said to him, "As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. 27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there.

I am so taken back by her faithfulness to the Lord. I look at my son, Jacob, who is three and think how much I love him, and attached to him. I cry if I leave him for a night, can you imagine forever. It makes me think about the woman who gave birth to me. She loved me enough to give me up for adoption, so that I could have a better life than she could offer.
I have to remember my duty and call from God to be a mom to the children He has given. That means doing the best I can to teach them about Jesus and depending solely on God to make sure that I don't screw them up.
If you are looking for a good study/devotional I highly recommend this one.

  1. You do such a good job at personal devotions. I need to get better at it. I will keep this one in mind!

The party is at my house on Sat. at 2:00, so if your parents are available at least we are close to them! We would love to see you :)

  2. I am happy to hear that you are enjoying the book. I might have to get that one for myself some day.
