Who's the BOSS?

I loved the show, Who's the Boss, unfortunately that is not what I am referring to. Jacob our 3 year old is in the stage of believing he is the boss of everyone. I find him constantly telling Isabelle what she can and can not do. He likes to believe he has the authority to discipline her as well. He likes to think he can tell me what to do, but he is rudely awaken by the reality that mom is in charge. Here is the conversation exchanged between us...

J- "I am the boss Isabelle and I said you can't do that." (put the tops on the dot paints)
M- "Jacob, you are not the boss, mom is, and if you don't like something that Isabelle is doing then you need to tell me."
J-"No, I am the boss"
M-"No, you are not, Mommy and Daddy are in charge of you, Isabelle and Andrew so you need to listen and obey what we say. Do you understand?"
J-"Mom, you are the boss, not daddy!"

At that I needed to laugh and say, yes you are right!

  1. I had to laugh out loud when I read this Stephanie. The boss issue has been a huge issue with my daughter for over a year now. She desperately wants to be the boss of someone. She even worries that she will never be the boss of anyone...even when she is a grown up. We have set up a hierarchy of bosses in our home: I am the first boss, my wife is the second boss, and she is the third boss. She knows she gets no authority with this title, but she is very happy that the word "boss" is in it.

  2. I was JUST READING a child training book YESTERDAY that talked about this very situation or "stage" in a young man's life. The author's suggestion - give the child something to "fix." he was talking about older boys (10yrs or so) and recommended gizmos, building projects, etc, but there may be ideas for younger "fix it" projects???

  3. Too funny! Good work on your working out too! Getting up at 6 am is a serious commitment!

I wanted to let you know if its easier for you to bring Andrew with to Brandi's shower that is just fine! I know it can be more work then neccessary to be away from them at that age. Plus it would be fun to have a baby around!

Any word if the McKinnons had their baby?
