Slap happy

My face hurts...Andrew is slap happy. It's a new thing for him to slap me in the face when I am holding him. I have probably redirected him 25 times today. I am trying to show him how to be gentle with his hands. I have a feeling this is going to be a long hard journey, especially since his brother and sister tend to not be the most gentle. He slaps and then gives me a huge smile like I should praise him. I don't understand why the firm voice and squeezing of the hand and stern look don't work, he just continues to think it's funny. Any advice?

  1. That was Dylan, we did exactly what you said, it just took time.

  2. The little punk has nailed me many times as well. Not to mention all the times he has rapped my head with a hockey stick or maraca.

  3. Steph, here is something for you to try. It worked wonders for a breast feeding biter. Everytime he slaps you say no hiting and set him on the floor and go about your business. He is getting to much response and that is what he is looking for. Just make sure you don't make a big deal out of it or show too much emotion. He will probably feel sad for a while but it won't last long. He needs to know what is acceptable and not acceptable behavior. Let me know how it works for you. Tina.
