How long should you let your kid cry after you have put them to bed?
When Isabelle was young she once cried for 3 hours before Stephanie broke down and took her out. Tonight Andrew went almost forty minutes. I feel so bad listening to him wail but I don't want him to think screaming is a ticket to late night play time.
How do you all do it? What has been your experience?
As I see it, it depends. Is your child healthy (not sick)? Is their Diaper ok? Are they warm in bed? maybe need a drink of water (we give sippys in bed). All the normal stuff that I'm sure you do.
ReplyDeleteDylan is a strong willed child, I've let him cry and talk and whatnot in his bed for an hour. I've also found that there are many good tips with Super Nanny. We've used a few of them on our kids and they work great.
My sister and my wife's cousin have found different books on sleeping and read them cover to cover and did exactly what they said...and kids that needed to be held to sleep, soothed and wake up all the time now no longer do that.
We've been blessed that for the most part our kids stay in bed. Once it's night time you better have a really good excuse to get up again.
Also we do allow them to come in quietly to our room and sleep on the floor after we've gone to bed. I don't plan to take that away any time soon.
Brianna gets up at two, stumbles quietly into our room and goes to sleep. I never let them take the bed. The choice was sleep on the floor on a blanket or sleep in your room. The first time was a 20 minute fight with screams, but after that, they both understood.
It helps that Nikki and I are absolutly grumps when we are suppose to be sleeping.
