It's been one week and my 9th grade girls are working hard! We have our first game next week, and not enough hours of practice to be really prepared. It's fun being on the court and being the one to lead, stop, teach, and direct plays. I admit I am more of an assistant, but as the days go on I find the girls coming to me to ask questions and advice.
We had our first parent's meeting tonight. I was a little intimidated by being responsible for their teen daughters experience of high school basketball. Although, the parents were excited about having a female coach around the team and someone who has some basketball experience. I do feel old. I was doing the math, and these girls were 4 years old when I was a senior in high school. Oh man, that means before I know it, Jake will be a freshman!
I love when the girls get to practice and say, "hey coach". I sometimes want to look around and see who they are addressing, but quickly I pull it together and say hey. I will keep you posted on our journey.
