Jacob has some bad diaper rash, and was complaining about the diaper hurting, so we thought we would try the potty training thing. First, we were letting him walk around naked so the diaper rash could air out a bit. Within 30 minutes he had informed us that he pooped on his bedroom floor. He will usually tell us if he has to pee and he will actually make it to the bathroom, but he has never pooped in the toilet yet. So, Brenton being the great dad and servant husband that he is cleaned it up.
Then today we put some Thomas the train underwear on him. I tried to make it a really big deal that he was wearing big boy underwear. I really had high hopes. Because he has been peeing in the toilet, I thought this would be easy. Well, I was wrong, he was sitting on the couch watching a movie and I asked him if he needed to use the potty. He said, "No, I already went peepee!" He seemed to be proud of himself in doing this and knowing that he did it. I quickly started asking more questions to see if he was telling the truth, and when I got the couch to look, there was a wet spot. I was so diappointed. I tried not to let him know my disappointment since it was the first day and time we had attempted this.
I really don't want to potty train. It seems so much easier to let him wear a diaper. I don't want to be cleaning underpants, furniture, the floor, carpet, and anywhere he is until he figures it out. Having wet underpants did not seem to phase him. Pray for us, I don't know if it's the right time.
Steph, Don't you just love potty training. My recomendation for potty traning is to plan a day or two outside (lunch and all). Have Jacob where underwear and shorts and let him figure it out. This way the only mess you have to clean up is clothes. I tried this method with Carter who had no interest in potty training what-so-ever. He was totaly potty trained, believe it or not even night time trained in one day. After the 3rd time fealing wet he decided he didn't like the feeling. Now I am sitting here with 2 - 2 1/2 year olds and keep putting off potty training because it is the one thing about raising children I dislike the most. I was planning on doing this method again in June but we are just to busy so I have decided to try in the fall. I will let you know how it goes. Good luck in your adventure. Tina
