Will boys be boys?

Jacob has learned how to spit. Probably becasue when he brushes his teeth I am telling him to spit in the sink. This morning he pulled a chair over to the railing in the loft and spit down onto the dinning room floor. I heard it hit the floor and he was really proud of what he had done, until the wrath of mom came out. I was so angry that he did this. I talked to him about spitting be gross and not a nice thing to do. I tried to explain that it's ok to spit when we brush our teeth, but we don't spit on things or people. He felt very sad about his bad choice. But we cuddled and he kept saying, "Sorry Mommy, it was an accident." (Learning what an accident is seems to be a whole new challenge that we are facing)

So, I told Brenton that he did this and he thought it was hilarious! He said that this is normal for boys to do. WHAT??? Do all boys think spitting is funny? Will boys just be boys- and this is something a mom or female will not relate to?

  1. Hey Steph,

I am not sure boys will be boys but I know for sure little ones will be little ones...I know this because I had 2 spitters, 1 boy 1 girl...spitting seems to be amazing and fun just another thing they find out they can do and as always it is not the act but the reaction they are all about...so keep up the inappropriatness lesson but when they aren't looking snicker under your breath because it is funny....

  2. I have found that it's not just spitting, but many things that my boys think are hilarious that I find no humor in. Using the toilet, burping, passing gas, it's all funny to them. Just the other day Linus and Miles were playing outside and Linus came in to ask for some help. I told him to hang on a second because I was using the potty and he started laughing hysterically, yelling out the front door "Miles, mom is on the toilet!!!" I'm sure the whole neighborhood could hear him! Miles has seen me changing and thinks that seeing my underwear is hilarious.

I don't know if these are boy things or just kid things but I can almost guarantee that you will be dealing with them in the not-so-distant future! I'll be here for ya, sister!

  3. Stephanie, our boys are growing up so fast. I'm guessing their will be many more little 'man' things they find funny, just like Ms. Brown highlighted. Unfortunately I will not be of mych help to you in discipline because I think these things are funny too. But I will do my best. And I'll make sure Jacob cleans up the spit mess (after we laugh about it). Love you babe.

  4. do you have another son that i'm unaware of? and yes spitting is gross, but try explaining why hockey boys get to spit and jake doesn't - he just has to figure out where spitting is appropriate...i'm assuming that takes anywhere from 1-15 years depending on his maturity.

  5. Heck Brianna Spits...she thinks it's Hilarious. Dylan still thinks it's fun to distroy things then climb on the table and try to swing on the light. Nikki tells me it was a very long week.
