Deck the Halls...or not?
I know we have not even gotten through Thanksgiving, but Martina McBride's White Chrstmas CD is playing in the background with Mariah Carey on deck. We are getting ready for the holidays- my favorite time of the year. I love that people are joyful, giving, and excited about being with family and friends to laugh, love and live. I love the colors, lights, trees, FOOD, packed malls, and childlike excitement. However, this year, the Balvin house will NOT be putting up a Christmas tree. I am bummed about it, but with 3 kids, 3 and under I figured I would not take on the fight of defending the Christmas tree from being stripped of its decorations. We will put our nativity scene up, and some other small things, but no tree. Some people would say that I am not teaching my kids about not touching things like that, but to them I would say I don't want them to have that overwhelming temptation every and all day. They will know not to touch other people's, but in this house we are choosing to enjoy the other parts of this great holiday. I want to get through it loving my kids, not wanting to strangle them for being kids and being curiuos! I guess I can enjoy everyone else's this year and maybe next year too! Happy decorating to all of you!

Stephanie I love reading your blog I also have a small child and I look at you as a role model in parenting advice.I really think its sad your not putting up a christmas tree though i alreay have mine up and i love it, but I understand with small children.Keep writing I love reading!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the not putting up a tree...my Three year old won't allow it to stay down though. After last year when Dylan broke bulbs then ate them...yeah I get it. This year we will either leave bulbs off the last half of the tree or put stuff on that the kiddies can't hurt, i.e. plastic stuff.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! By Christmas, our tree is usually bare at the bottom and the upper half is way crowded with re-hung ornaments!
ReplyDeleteYou know that I love this season too! I do understand. I can't imagine trying to worry about a tree in addition to all the other things kids get into. They will still learn and know what Christmas means. It's not all about the tree!!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, thanks for the very nice comment. However, i don't see myself as someone giving parental advice. I see myself as someone trying hard to do good for my kids- I am glad you are enjoying the blog. Where are you from?
