I just completed 2 days of testing for ADHD. As I assumed, I have ADHD without the H. So, I have an attention issue without being hyper or impulsive. It has been very interesting learning about this, and clears up so many issues that I had growing up and in college. I plan on learning more, but it's nice to know there is some rhyme and reason of why I am the way I am. Unfortunely, because I have it, there is a good chance that at least one of our kids will have it too. I am glad that I have some time before they get into school to learn, research, and find the best ways to teach, lead, and modify things for them (if they need it).
As I have talked with people over the past month, I know that some people think that ADHD is non existent or made up. Let me assure you that it's real and affects my and many people's daily life. Please read up on it here.
I am very grateful to my parents who did a lot of hard work to keep me going academically and in activities. The psychologist says that many people with this struggle to function in school and/or social settings. My parents never gave up on me. They modified for me, got me tutors, encouraged, and never let me give up on something or myself even when my classroom teachers did. I believe that I would have struggled to get through school (all levels) if they didn't do everything they did to help me. THANKS mom and dad!
Yeah! Someone else who understands and can help educate!! Not yeah that you have it and have to deal with it! Way to go on getting tested! I struggle still to understand it all, but we are trying are best to do so for Nico's sake! It's not easy, but we will do whatever we can to get him through, especially school! And not just to get him through, but help him achieve his best potential!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I was referred to a group in Big Lake, and I could be mistaken, but I think they too are christian or at least have christian councelors in their office. I'm going to try that first, and if I'm not happy with the way things are going then I will call you!
