Hey Weather man

Today we are expecting 8" of snow-YUK! BUT I always thought it had to be at freezing temperature to have snow? I thought it had to be 32 degrees and today it's suppose to be almost 40- how does that work?

  1. I believe that what happens is the air around the cloud is freezing, and thus the precipitation forms ice crystals. These fall to earth and even though the air is not freezing here, neither is it hot enough to melt them immediately. Thus the snow falls, but most of it will not actually hang around for long.
