Social Butterfly

As a child my parents got me a t-shirt that read "All PLAY, no WORK" They were always telling me to get work done whether is was homework, chores, or anything else. I was always wanting to play with friends, self, brother, or anyone who was willing. Then as I got older, I became known as a "social butterfly"- I was always looking for someone to talk with and get to know more. I don't know if its a good or bad thing, but I believe I have passed this down to all my children. They love people and love talking to anyone who will humor them.

At our neighborhood bonfire last Saturday our neighbors across the cul-de-sac, who have all grown children, told me Izzy popped over to their house one day to say hello (not surprising). While she was there, the nice lady asked her to watch out because she wanted to back her car out and didn't want to run Izzy over (thank you very much nice neighbor). This is how the rest of the conversation went-

Izzy-" Wait, first I want to ask you something?"
Lady- "Ok, what is it?"
Izzy- "How is your summer going?"
Lady- (with a gentle laugh) "Well, it's going well, thanks for asking!"
Izzy- "Sure, no problem. Now you can back up, there is no one behind you."

She is my little social butterfly. She knows all the neighbors names, and the ones she doesn't know, she asks if we can invite the "strangers" over so we can get to know them. She will stand in our driveway and watch everyone get home from work, then proceed to YELL hi _________! (their name) until they acknowledge her greeting. I sometimes have to tell her to stop and that saying hi one time is enough. I am praying this will be a strength for her as she gets older, but for now it's just taming and training that's tricky.
