Parent- Teacher conferences

I am preparing at my school to have conferences with the parents of the students I teach everyday. With that comes a lot of preparation of work to show, documented things they need to work on or have improved on, and other random tidbits of information. I've been through this before when I was a teacher in a North Minneapolis school, and I actually really like conference times because I get to come face to face with the reason the children are the way they are! Often times after a conference, all the pieces of getting to know my students comes together. They saying is true, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

However, last night was my first experience on the other side of the conferences. Jacob had his first preschool conferences. I was excited to go, since I have not had the opportunity to be at his school with my job and all. But I was a little nervous about what the teacher would tell me about Jacob as a student (because of the statement above). Much to my delight, the teacher had great things to say about Jacob. I was even shocked that he doesn't carry some of his unlikeable home behaviors, such as whining, arguing and complaining, into his classroom. She was really impressed with how "laid back" he was and that he has no problem transitioning or sitting still during group time. He is a great friend to everyone and never throws a fit about a toy or taking turns on something. At first, I thought she was lying. But as she gave me examples of his behaviors I started getting that warm, proud mom feeling! The only thing we need to work on is Jacob sharing with us at home the information his teachers are teaching throughout their time. I wonder if this is just a set-up for his lack of telling us about homework he might have or important messages he is suppose to relay.

I couldn't be more proud of him! Jake, way to go! Keep up the great attitude, being a good friend, and doing good work. Love you bud!
